FAQS
CAN I BOOK A TRIAL SESSION?
I can offer you a no-obligation 20-minute Zoom or telephone consultation prior to your booking. The success of counselling relies on the quality of the relationship between us, so it is important that you get a feel of who I am and whether you think you can talk to me, get a sense of how I work and consider whether you feel I can help you with your unique circumstances. Please feel free to ask me anything that is on your mind, especially if you are looking for something particular in your counsellor.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?
My fee for a 1-1 session is £65.00 - the same whether it is face-to-face or online.
Couples’ or relationship sessions for two people are £85.00.
This fee is due 24-hours prior to the session and can be in cash or bank transfer. Each session is 50 minutes.
I offer a reduction for students studying recognised counselling courses at a level 4 or higher - however I only work with three students at any one time so please get in touch to discuss availability.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
In the first session I will need to go through a few details that ensure that we can work together ethically and safely.
After that, the counselling session is led by you. I don't take any notes in the session as I want to be able to concentrate entirely on you and your needs. Sometimes I might suggest therapeutic interventions or activities that I feel might be helpful to you, but these are always optional and we can talk about what is helpful - or not - as we work together.
HOW MUCH COUNSELLING DO I NEED?
I can offer short- or long-term counselling, dependent on your needs. 9-12 sessions is typical for short-term counselling. Often clients come for a particular reason but as we work together and learn about the relationships between aspects of life, the focus changes and the work becomes psychologically deeper. This is all OK. We will discuss the changing focus, and you are therefore in control of any changes in direction, agenda shifts or growing intensity of your therapy. You can come for as many or as few sessions as you need.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS A SESSION?
I ask for as much notice as you can give for a cancelled session, but of course sometimes life happens and things can't be helped. If I can reschedule your missed session at a mutually convenient time, I will do my best. If the session isn't cancelled, then the full fee will be charged.
IS COUNSELLING CONFIDENTIAL?
On the whole, yes. A safe, non-judgemental and confidential space to talk is the reason most clients come for therapy. I see a clinical supervisor to discuss my work and they are similarly bound by confidentiality. There are very few circumstances when I might need to disclose something that is said in session, and we will discuss these in our first session together. If possible, I would always discuss a disclosure with you directly.
I WORK SHIFTS, CAN MY SESSIONS BE FLEXIBLE?
I understand that the same time and place each week isn't always convenient for everybody. However, the frequency, reliability and predictability of the counselling session is important to the therapeutic process itself. I try to offer as much flexibility as I can with regard to times and modes of counselling, to make the service as accessible as possible. Drop me an email, and we can talk about what you need.
WHAT ARE YOUR AVAILABLE SESSIONS?
I currently offer daytime sessions Monday through to Saturday. I also run evening sessions on Mondays
and Thursdays, though these sessions currently have a waiting list.
First session of the day starts at 9.00am - except Saturdays which start at 8.30am. Last evening session is 8.00pm.
